Parenting programmes are increasingly popular yet they are not 'one size fits all' – how do we know which to use, when, and for whom – what other forms of support and resources might parents find helpful? July 10-11, 2009 University of Leicester This conference acted as a forum for debate on the state of parenting intervention services in the UK. As ever, the IAN will host a controversial and exciting debate where ALL views and perspectives will be welcome. Good opportunities for extensive networking in the University of Leicester's new conference venue, which was next to the botanical gardens for a relaxing weekend - both intellectually stimulating in relaxing surroundings. Speakers included: Professor Jane Barlow (University of Warwick); Professor Judy Hutchings (University of Bangor); Dr. Tirril Harris; Dr. Helen Barrett; Senior reps from NAPP; Rebecca Milford (Open University) with information about a new screening tool. Also, practitioners with experience of using a number of parenting programmes, resources and interventions of many kinds, including Christine Puckering (Mellow Parenting), P.O. Svanberg (Family Nurse Partnership and Sunderland Infant Programme), Home-Start, Family Action, Newpin, Solihull Approach Parenting, Race Equality Foundation, Fatherhood Institute, Playing Matters.
